Approximately fifty cars have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to police.
Automobiles, building surfaces and postboxes were defaced, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they announced in a statement.
Law enforcement state they were contacted late on Wednesday, when a resident discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish substance.
The fluid had been placed in the form of a banned symbol, they stated.
Law enforcement then located numerous other vandalized vehicles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement report preliminary tests suggest the fluid was probably human blood.
"At present there remains no lead as to where it came from; authorities are presently not aware of any physical harm in relation with the event," they stated.
City officials stated they were trying "to resolve the mystery" and have asked to the public for details.
A high-ranking representative said the attack rendered him without words and required to be resolved quickly.
"This event affects the center of Hanau and revives the pain of the far-right violent incident half a decade ago," he stated on a platform, referring to the death of nine people by a assailant targeting individuals of foreign heritage in February 2020.
