Far-Right Former Lawmaker José Antonio Kast Elected as Chile Incoming Head of State.

After a definitive second-round vote, ultra-conservative candidate José Antonio Kast has won the presidential office in Chile.

A Clear-Cut Victory

With over 99% of polling stations reporting, Kast won 58.17% of the ballots, defeating leftist former minister Jeannette Jara, who obtained 41.83%.

This represents Kast's third bid for the presidency, having in the past been lost by the current president, Gabriel Boric, in the 2021 second round.

Known for his staunch socially conservative views and admiration for the rule of former leader Augusto Pinochet, Kast's electoral bid was primarily centered on promises to address rising crime and drastically curb immigration.
