Jennifer Lawrence has declared that she finds it inappropriate appropriate to voice opinions countering the Trump presidency, worried it could exacerbate divisive discussions and deepen rifts throughout the country.
In a recent interview, she reflected, “During the first Trump administration, I believed I was acting frantically in a panicked state. But as we’ve learned, election after election, public figures do not make a difference at all on who people vote for.”
The actor went on, “What’s the point? I’m just sharing my opinion on an issue that’s going to heighten conflict dividing the nation apart.”
Lawrence has previously been open about backing right and leftwing contenders in past elections. Brought up by a right-leaning family in her home state, she voted for the Republican nominee in the 2008 election then moving to the Democratic party and explaining she recognized during President Obama’s term that supporting the GOP was voting against her personal freedoms as a female citizen.
Earlier in her career, she remarked that a Trump victory would be “a disaster” and backed the Democratic candidate in the 2020 presidential race. In the latest campaign, she voiced her backing to Kamala Harris, “as I think she’s an amazing candidate and I am confident that she will do whatever she can to protect women’s health rights.”
Jennifer Lawrence was supported by most of Hollywood in her rejection of the former president as a candidate for re-election, but the lack of leverage public figures have over the electoral decisions was underscored by his election win.
“Another four years seems distinct,” said Lawrence regarding his leadership. “Since he said what he was going to do. We knew what he did for the previous administration. He was transparent. And voters made that decision.”
The actor is highlighting Die, My Love, director Lynne Ramsay’s drama in which she stars as a young mom who struggles with her emotional state in rural Montana. At a press conference for the movie in the film festival, Lawrence spoke about the conflict in Gaza: “It’s frightening. It’s mortifying. What’s happening is no less than a humanitarian crisis and it’s horrible.”
Lawrence added by saying that she was saddened by “the lack of civility in the discourse of American politics currently and how that is going to be normalised to the kids today. It’s going to be typical to them that elected officials deceive.”
She aimed to shift outrage about the situation to leaders rather than actors and artists. “Keep attention on the people in charge,” she remarked, which was interpreted as a allusion to the recent commitment signed by thousands of entertainment industry figures to boycott certain cultural organizations.
The actor, who won an Oscar at a young age for her performance in the acclaimed film, is generating Oscar buzz for her performance in her latest project. Even though the director has denied the narrative being seen as one of maternal mental health issues and psychosis, she said that she identified with aspects of her character’s journey after the delivery of her second son, soon after filming concluded.
“I felt anxiety regarding my baby,” she commented, “envisioning every worst-case scenario, and then questioning everything that I was attempting. I was seeing a therapist, but I began using a drug called that medicine and I continued it for 14 days and it was effective.”
Lawrence also mentioned about the liberating necessity of completing nude scenes in the movie while she was in pregnancy and limited physically.
“There’s a freedom,” she commented, about having to set aside self-consciousness. “Truly, I do have moments where I’m like, What separates me between me and a prostitute? But it isn’t a major concern.”
