A chief executive of Domino's Pizza Group who proposed the United Kingdom might have reached pizza saturation while diversifying the chain into poultry items has been ousted after tensions with its directors.
Rennie is departing after a brief tenure in the top role, and will be succeeded on an temporary basis by the company's chief operating officer, Nicola Frampton, while Domino's seeks a new leader.
The outgoing executive, who was with Domino's for a substantial period, had sought to shift Britain's leading pizza delivery company towards chicken offerings, commenting in a recent interview there was not âhuge potentialâ left in the British pizza industry. He said chicken was the most rapidly expanding food category in the world.
Sources suggest that there was tension between the CEO and the governance team over his focus and direction, although the company's official statement said he was leaving âthrough mutual consentâ.
In September, Domino's launched its poultry brand â which the former chief described as a âmajor strategic shiftâ for the company â and is piloting it in over 200 locations in the north-west of England and Northern Ireland.
While the business is still planning to expand it across its extensive network in 2026 as scheduled, it regards fried chicken as complementary to its main pizza offerings.
Bull, the company chairman, said: âThe board believes that there are a number of opportunities to enhance value and value creation in our primary operations. We are prioritizing finding the ideal CEO to oversee the systematic rollout of that development approach.â
Recently, the pizza delivery giant, which has a substantial customer base in the UK and Ireland, said transactions fell by 1.5% in the latest quarter. In August, it alerted that the food delivery sector had âbecome tougherâ as it attributed reduced spending in the lead-up to the government announcement and rising wage costs for below-target performance and a significant fall in six-month income.
Rival chains are also experiencing difficulties. Pizza Hut revealed the closing of multiple locations a recently, after the company behind its outlets faced financial collapse.
Adapting to customer preferences towards balanced diets, the company has rolled out light options, such as its thin-crust range of pizzas below 400 kcals as well as vegan and gluten-free options. A big pepperoni bake has over 2,300 kcal. A big margherita has over 2,100, while a individual has 909 kcal.
The interim chief has been with Domino's since the recent past, and had a background at the betting firm a well-known operator. It is understood that she is not seeking to take on the chief executive role permanently.
She said: âOur team has a several active expansion and efficiency programs that we will be dedicated to executing at speed.â
She added these comprised ongoing development on the organization's supply chain and menu innovation, and its customer retention initiative.
The pizza chain is also without a permanent chief financial officer until March 16, when Andy Andrea starts from the drinks company a well-known firm. In the meantime, Snow acts as acting financial officer.
