The Game UN:Me: A Psychological Horror Merging Survival Horror and Social Deduction Gameplay

The latest Day of the Devs online presentation revealed a number of intriguing upcoming titles, but one in particular has seized the imagination: UN:Me. Created by Historia and Shueisha Games, this single-player experience seems to fuse together the dread-filled setting of a Silent Hill game with the paranoid deduction core of Among Us.

"This is a unique game where a girl harboring multiple human souls within her needs to flee from a maze of the mind," explains developer Yasukazu Kawai.

Stepping Into a Shattered Consciousness

In UN:Me, players take control of an unnamed heroine who appears to be of high school age. Inside her reside four separate personas, all possessing unique anxieties and motivations. These souls can take over spontaneously, unleashing their deep-seated terrors upon her suddenly.

Judging by showcased gameplay, much of the narrative unfolds within a creepy medical facility, while additional clips show the main character exploring a abandoned chapel.

A World of Personal Dread

"What makes you fearful of? What causes you uncomfortable?" poses creative lead Shun Sasaki. "High places. Confined spaces. People in power. Elements that seem trivial to other people can activate a deep instinct within us. This game delves into that idea — fears that are unique to every individual."

The core gameplay loop involves managing whichever soul surfaces at any given moment. However, these souls will change involuntarily as you play. During exploration, every persona's anxieties become exaggerated and assault the girl one after another. As the persona shifts, so does the particular terror the player encounters.

Eerie Aesthetics and a Deadly Decision

At first glance, UN:Me displays noticeable visual similarities with the Silent Hill series. The setting is populated by orderlies who all share the same face, with unnervingly wide smiles. Patients in the waiting room have enormous flowers where their necks are. Flowers are a recurring element, juxtaposing organic elegance with unnatural horror.

Yet, UN:Me presents a singular mechanic. Players must determine which of the four souls haunting the heroine is the "true" one. "Each of the personas asserts that the body belongs to them," notes a creator. "During the game, you need to figure out who is real."

After a player believes a soul is fake, they must eliminate it. However, because every entity can deceive or obfuscate the reality, it is incredibly simple to choose incorrectly.

"Perhaps you've already destroyed the true [soul] by your own actions," the narration states. "The last one remaining might be a fake. Either way, your decisions are final."

UN:Me does not yet have a confirmed release date, but it is available to wishlist on digital storefronts.
